Kings of Chaos Age 13?

This age is taking too long, but others are enjoying it. Personally, I'm waiting for KoC Age 13 to begin for several reasons. For the most part, let's just say I've been off the game for quite a while now and I can't wait to start things over again.

How about you? What do you think? Post your comments below.

*UPDATE: Age 12 will end on December 5 at 7:00 PM GMT. Continue reading here.

Beginner's Guide to KoC

Kings of Chaos is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). Players initially choose their preferred race---Humans, Dwarves, Orcs, Undead, and Elves. Each race has its own bonus. Humans gain more income. Dwarves defend better. Orcs attack stronger. Elves spy more stealthily. And the Undead guard better against reconnaissance and sabotage.

INCOME AND ATTACK TURNS

Players get stronger in terms of two primary things: (1) income, and (2) attack turns. Income (or gold) comes every 30 minutes, the same time it takes to get 1 attack turn. The size of a player's income is determined by the number of soldiers he has. The bigger the fighting force, the higher the income will be. On the other hand, attack turns are spent on striking and defeating enemies in order to steal their gold. Both income and attack turns can give players a suitable amount of gold, depending on several factors, which they can spend to buy weapons. The bottom line is that the more gold you have, the more (or better) weapons you'll be able to purchase, and the better chances you have of gaining the upper hand.

INCREASING SOLDIERS

Increasing a player's soldiers can be achieved in two ways: (1) through the recruiter and (2) through the unit production upgrades. The recruiter is a tool where players click on their recruit links and those of others, thereby increasing morale. The higher the morale, the more soldiers the player will expect in return. Conversely, the more links clicked, the more soldiers will be received in the process. In short, morale is equivalent to the total number of click credits. There are two types of recruiters. The first is the in-game recruiter accessible via the "recruit" link on the left side of the KoC page. The second type are recruiters created by other KoC players. It is a system that works just like the in-game recruiter. Unit Production upgrades can be accessed through the "training" link located in the left side of the KoC page. Every upgrade determines how many soldiers a player will receive every 24 hours. The higher the upgrade cost, the more soldiers will be regularly received. The maximum unit production upgrade is 640 soldiers every 24 hours. The minimum is 0.

WEAPONS

Weapons in Kings of Chaos can be generally classified into four types: (1) Attack, (2) Defense, (3) Spy, and (4) Sentry. All of these weapon types have their own respective weapon kinds. The pricier the weapon, the stronger the weapon will be and the more points the player will receive for the corresponding action. Apparently, attack weapons are used to make offense or strike the enemy. Defensive weapons are activated whenever an enemy attacks the defending player. Attack weapons are not used when defending an attacking enemy. Similarly, defense weapons are not used by soldiers when the player initiates the attack on another player.

Spy weapons or tools are used by spies when making covert reconnaissance operations or sabotaging the weapons of an enemy. The more and better spy tools, the more chances a player has in seeing the enemies' gold in the battlefield. On the other hand, sentry tools are used by sentries in order to defend against spies. Sentry tools enable a player to hide his gold from the enemy in the battlefield. These tools, when held by sentries, also serve to protect the player from enemy sabotage attempts.

UPGRADES

The strength of weapons can be amplified through certain upgrades. Upgrades can come in the form of: (1) siege technology, (2) fortification, and (3) covert level. Each succeeding upgrade costs more but raises stats better. Siege technology upgrades increase the multiplier for the strike action of a player, given certain attack weapons held by trained or untrained attack soldiers, or attack mercenaries. Fortification upgrades increase the multiplier for the defensive action of a player, given certain defensive weapons held by trained or untrained defense soldiers, or defense mercenaries. Covert level upgrades increase the multiplier for both spy and sentry, given certain spy or sentry tools held by covert operatives.

MERCENARIES

Mercenaries are soldiers that do not produce income or gold. They are purchased through the "mercenaries" link in the left side of the KoC page. No more than 25% of a player's total fighting force can be composed of mercenaries. Untrained mercenaries are the first to die in battle, followed by either attack or defense mercenaries depending on whether the player attack or defended another player.

RANKINGS

Rankings are calculated once every 30 minutes. A player's rank is determined in terms of the total of each of the ranks of his stats which include strike and defensive actions as well as spy and sentry ratings. The total rank is thereafter compared with the total rank of all the other players, thereby producing the player's overall rank.

KoC Age 12

Taken from the Kings of Chaos homepage:

Welcome to Age 12! We're made a few updates for the Age, as well as adjusting race bonuses, so choose your new strategy wisely!
  • Negative morale cap of -100: Players whose morale drops below this amount will not be eligible to receive recruit clicking credit.
  • Clickback Trickle: Credit for morale-based recruits now propagates up the command chain, so commanders will benefit from having officers with high morale.
  • New race bonuses: Human income bonus reduced from 25% to 15%, Dwarves, Elves, and Orcs main bonus increased 10%.
  • Alliances have been cleaned out to remove obsolete alliances.

Be reminded that the details only include morale transfers that were made/received after the feature has been implemented. You can access the morale transfer log from your Recruit Page (top image).

SAB List (Updated)

Too many noobs attacking me ONLINE and being DEFENDED. I kindly asked them to send morale for soldiers lost but I mostly got rude replies instead. Random sabs and ALL sab attempts will not be tolerated. I have been building my defense to get a decent TBG (currently at 5M gold). As soon as I get my target number of soldiers I will be retraining most of my soldiers into spies. ALL 50,000+ of them! Here's my list of NOOBS who'll see me in their logs in the coming weeks. If yours is on the list, CONGRATULATIONS!

KoC on April Fools Day

Taken from KoC Komepage, posted April 1, 2009:

Due to the feedback players have given us, we will begin systematically implementing every suggestion we've received in the past six years. We will begin with a few of these changes and run them until the end of Age 11, then will evaluate player comments and conerns when deciding whether to leave them as part of the game before testing the next set of changes. Here is the first set of gameplay changes for Age 11:

* New Weapon: Magic Missile - Similar to the Blackpowder Missle, but with twice the strength. Undead equipped with Magic Missile receive a 25% bonus when using this weapon against the darkness.

* New User Advisor: Munchkin - By popular demand, we have added a feature that will automatically buy weapons for you each gold turn, will automatically sabotage anyone who attacks you and has that attack defended (until they send you 1000 morale), and will periodically browse the battlefield, attacking and reconning likely targets based on a treasury/DA evaluation. Note: since the Munchkin is still a relatively new and untested feature, we have not yet been able to prevent it from attacking allies or friends.

* Attack Percentages: Instead of random attack and defense damages in battles, you will always attack and defend with 100% strength. Instead, the information gained from recons will be random. How much do you trust your spies? Note: Munchkin takes this change into account in its calculations.

* Virtual Friends: If you have already exhausted your circle of friends, neighbors, and coworkers in a quest for new officers, you can now register up to 10 "virtual friends" - computer players who will "register" as your officers and are controlled by Munchkin decision-making technology. They will also periodically communicate with you and ask (quiz) you about Kings of Chaos rules. If you don't get the answer right or don't respond, they will ditch you as a commander and join the chain of your biggest enemy.

* Premium Accounts: Due to the economy, Kings of Chaos can no longer simply be a free game. We have created "premium" accounts, which will have the following advantages over a regular account:
o God mode: For one week each Age you can turn on God Mode. During this time you cannot be attacked or sabotaged.
o 400 Babies: Unit production you purchase will be half the cost and produce five times as much as regular unit production.
o SuperMunchkin: You will have access to developmental gameplaying technology, as well as invites to future beta test ages and armchair-access to the admins' ears with your suggestions.

KoC Update

Posted: March 28, 2009

Slight gameplay modification: To go into vacation mode multiple times, you must be active for at least the duration of your previous vacation mode time. For instance, if you go into vacation mode for a week, then come back, you cannot go into vacation mode again for a week. While we like clever gameplay, vacation mode is intended for just that - people going on vacation. Enjoy the beach!

Is Kings of Chaos Down?

Kings of Chaos KoC Down
For some reason, KoC has been frequently down. It appears that the website has been inaccessible for many times since Age 11 began. Will the lost game-time be compensated with the amount of TBG and attack turns similar to what has been lost while the KoC website was down? We won't be expecting that to happen although, of course, it would be good if the KoC administrators would fill our expectations. But then again, everybody else (I think) has been experiencing the same problem. It's all fair as far as everybody is concerned. Continue reading here.

KoC Age 11: The Age of GOLD

Kings of Chaos KoC Age 11 Age of Gold
Kings of Chaos Age 11 is the age of GOLD. Why? Two things: one, TBG has been raised and, two, Unit Production (UP) upgrade has been raised to 640 a day. This age, TBG for soldiers is now at 80 gold while TBG for coverts is at 20 gold. With a UP of up to 640 per 24 hours, Gold won't be hard to find for Age 11. What more if you're race is Humans or Dwarves?

Now that speaks a lot for Orcs. As this age is supposed to be the age of gold, Orcs will be having better chances of stealing more. That goes for all the other races although, of course, Orcs have the upper hand offensively. Which is why it makes sense that the attack turns that any player can bank has been raised to 500. Meaning, this age will also be an age where players are compelled to attack more.

With more gold you can buy more weapons, of course. Remember, though, that Elves have been given a higher spy bonus as compared to last age. Now, they have 40% spy bonus, which means they'll be having a better edge in destroying weapons this age as compared to the previous one. However, a higher spy bonus does not mean a higher chance at succeeding at sabs. The best things that the change in spy bonus can give are: 1)better chance of seeing gold in the battlefield, and 2)better chance at sabotaging other players whose sentry ratings are somewhat closer to your spy rating (assuming you're an Elf). In short, the higher ranking players will be in for a rough ride against Elves this age while the lower ranking players will have more time to breathe.

The sad part is that the Undead race bonus for sentry has been lowered to 30 percent, which means the Undead race is no longer at par with Elves in terms of defending sabotage attempts. The Undead will have to either make the most out of their strike action bonus by constantly spending their turns in return for gold which can be spent on sentry tools, or try to keep a high total fighting force (TFF) for a high TBG which can be spent on, again, sentry tools.

Dwarves are given more "thickness" this age. Meaning, with an increase in the income bonus and a high defense bonus, it is easy to see why Dwarves are in a better position of lazily sitting around and increasing their TFF compared to last age. If you're a Dwarf this age and you're aiming for a high TFF, you won't be having much need for you attack turns.

As far as I see it, Kings of Chaos (KoC) Age 11 will be the age of GOLD. Humans have a lot more to spend. Orcs have a lot more to steal. Dwarves have a lot more to boost their defense. Elves will bring more sabotage damage. Unfortunately, the Undead race has a lot more to work on.

Also, the Spy and Sentry ratings calculator which you can find HERE has also been adjusted.

Have fun this age! Continue reading here.
